Caught in the Web

We deal with the consequences of naive or inexperienced internet use at school on an almost daily basis.  Often, although Bennett parents are usually incredibly supportive in all other ways, they find they are out of their depth with internet abuse and risks becasue they don’t know enough about it themselves.

BBC Newsround this afternoon screened a powerful and illuminating drama, Caught in the Web, designed to make young people aware of the dangers lurking in the cyber world – you can watch it on iPlayer for 11 more days on http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00qp1pm/Newsround_Caught_in_the_Web/ .  I recommend it to parents as much as to young people!

Today was a somewhat more eventful day than we planned for.  We had a minor fire in the basement of the Mansion building started by an oil spill.  The fire was quickly put out by our own staff before the fire brigade was called, but we had to do an emergency evacuation of the whole school.  Students and staff were brilliant, even though it was freezing cold and they had to stay outside for about 15 minutes.  The fire brigade checked everything was safe before we gave the OK to go back in, and they will be coming to do a safety check on the site at half term.

Don’t forget to have a look at the e-safety programme!
