Family fun, autumn sunshine

I am writing the short addition, from school,  to the post put up yesterday, to report that I have just had a walk around the school on a beautiful, sunny September Saturday afternoon to support the year 7 family fun afternoon.  Every year we invite new year 7 students, and their parents and siblings, to come in to school for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon in September to enjoy a relaxed social time together. It provides an opportunity for mums and dads to get to know each other and their children’s new friends, and helps families to feel that Bennett belongs to them as well.

Chatting to a number of parents, I have been really encouraged to hear how well the new year 7s are settling in.  One mum said that her son has been coming home from school since starting saying that he absolutely loves school, something she never heard him say before.  And even those with longer bus journeys seem to be doing well also.  Another mum said she always used to struggle to get her son up before, but now that he has to leave home a whole hour earlier she has not had to wake him up once!

It was lovely to see parents and students joining in some fun games together and enjoying a barbecue (maybe the last of the year!), courtesy of Southborough Butchers, in the autumn sunshine in our beautiful grounds.

A big thank you is due to Mr Poulsom, the year manager for year 7, and his enthusiastic team of tutors, for coming in to work on a Saturday to make this such a distinctive, enjoyable and important part of the Bennett calendar.
