Founders’ Day 2012

Last Friday the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council young people’s sports awards ceremony took place at the Assembly Hall.  Out of a total of about 10 main awards, four were taken by Bennett students for exceptional achievements in sports.  Congratulations to them:

Team of the year – Boys’ rugby under 16 team (for winning the Kent Shield last year)

Overcoming adversity award – Matthew Weston – Taekwondo

U18 Fusion Achievement Award – Luke Bailey – Badminton

Sports Leadership Award – William Desmond

Today is our annual Founders’ Day when we celebrate the foundation of the school 61 years ago jointly (which is why the apostrophe is after the s!) by Bishop Christopher Chavasse of Rochester and Lady Elena Bennett, in memory of Lady Bennett’s late husband.  The Dean of Rochester Cathedral will be leading a service of celebration and thanksgiving this afternoon during which the school’s lasting values will be transmitted symbolically from the oldest students in the school to the youngest.

I would like to wish a restful half term holiday to all students and colleagues after a very long eight week period at school.  I know year 7 students in particular, having made that enormous transition from primary to secondary school, will be particularly in need of a break.  We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 5th November.
