My speech as President at ASCL Conference

A number of people have asked where they can see or read the recent opening keynote speech I gave at ASCL (Association of School and College Leaders) Annual Conference recently.  The link to the text of the speech is here http://www.ascl.org.uk/utilities/document-summary.html?id=687CCB95-F528-4597-B8323B328C9F0A55 , and all the other speeches and videos of the conference can be seen via the ASCL website www.ascl.org.uk .  The ‘values’ focus of what I said was very much inspired by the implicit and explicit aims and ethos of the Church schools I have worked in, in particular Bennett, and one of my purposes was to offer something of the insights of Church school education to the wider school network.  The speech was delivered to some 1300 delegates in the hall, including Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Educaiton, and Sir Michael Wilshaw, as well as an unknown number watching online.

Shortly before the conference began, there was an article in the Independent newspaper about Bennett – the link to it is here http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/schools/ian-bauckham-interview-lets-free-schools-from-ofsted-9203196.html .
